Life Update - Still Alive and (Not) Blogging

Hello, you beautiful hooman beans! It's me, Ruzaika, and as my extremely creative post title indicates, this is going to be a general update on everything that's been happening recently and what to look forward to from me for the rest of this year. (Hint: not much!)

As you probably know, I'm a psychology student, and I'm reading for my Masters degree. September on is going to be my final, final, final semester and for lack of a better word- crazy. It's going to be crazy busy since I was just assigned to a supervisor and will be starting on my research project soon, and have an internship thingy coming up as well- not to mention regular lectures, coursework, exams and all that. So, I daresay I'd be finding it hard to keep up with blogging (not that I've been doing that all that much lately) and this, I'm afraid, means it's time for a--

...AGAIN.

It's starting to feel like I'm talking more about not being able to blog than actually blog so much lately, and I do apologize for that. I miss being able to blog, read other blogs and interact with all you lovely people in the bookish community, but I really do need a break and hence this decision. I'll still be posting this month, but I might not be around for the rest of this year. You can still talk to me on Twitter, Instagram and all that though (I'm @notyourhijabi pretty much everywhere).  I'll miss catching up with everything that's happening around here and reading my favourite blogs, but I truly believe this is the best decision for now.

Anyhoo, now that that's out of the way, let me now tell you all about what I've been up to lately (apart from dying over assignments and exams, that is) lately. I recently started listening to kpop- and nope, I'm not really down that hole, but my lovely Juwairiya introduced me to BlackPink and I have to say I really, really love them. Which means of course I had to share a couple of my favourite music videos of theirs with y'all!

If you, however, feel BlackPink isn't for you, then fear not- I've got you covered! You've probably heard about BTS already, even if you're not involved in anything K-related). EXO, NCT and DAY6 are some other kpop groups and I'm especially in love with NCT (well, NCT's Taeyong, really) so, well, here's one each of their songs!

That's all the kpop I'm going to throw in your face, but there are two Tamil songs I've really, really loved lately, so I'm sharing them just in case you feel like expanding your musical tastes or something~

That's all the music I have for you, but wait! Remember I talked about the kdramas I was watching a few months ago? Well, I guess it's only right that I update you on them as well, so bear with me for a little longer?

Out of the 5 I was watching back then, I completed two. Suits and About Time. While the former quite satisfied me, the latter felt lacking, especially since things felt too rushed towards the end. Lawless Lawyer and Miss Hammurabi were both very promising and I loved what I watched of them (a few episodes each) but they were a little too serious and...dark? And I had to give up on them since I wasn't in the right headspace for them. I'll still get back to them someday, but I'm afrain it's a DNF for now.

Sounds like I've been having a very meh time with kdramas lately, doesn't it? Wrong. I actually watched two very, very, very good dramas the past few weeks- Why Secretary Kim and Are You Human Too- and they both made me so happy! The former, especially, but the latter is so underrated I don't even know why. If at all you feel like getting into kdramas, I suggest you start with Are You Human Too, and get to it quick because the finale is set to air next week!

I'm yet to catch up with the latest episodes of both these dramas, but Why Secretary Kim has already ended and Are You Human too, like I mentioned before, is ending soon- which means WHAT WILL I DO WITH MY LIFE?

(Uni, you'd say, I know. Shush.)

I've found myself three promising dramas- Life, Mr. Sunshine, Still 17 and ID: Gangnam Beauty- and it's only a matter of time before I end up trying any of these. So yeah. That's my kdrama update for you, but before I wrap up, let me also share with the trailers of two movies- both book adaptations- I'm really, really looking forward to!

TL;DR I'm going on hiatus from September on and I'll miss you...but check out this list of videos I've curated for you!

So, this is pretty much what I've been up to lately, and this is how the rest of my year looks like. What about you? Have you been reading and blogging as much as you'd have liked to? Is the rest of the year looking promising? What have you been up to? Let's talk in the comments below!

  1. Hi Ruzi!

Awww, I feel for you. But you gotta do what you gotta do. And at least you're heading where you want to be, plus I'm sure you'll be rewarded with a bright future in the field you've chosen. When it was time to make up my mind about high school, I made a HUGE mistake, and I made another one when choosing my major. I just shunned the subjects I didn't like and opted for those I was interested in, but I didn't have a heck of a plan for my future - and what's even worse, I didn't have any plan that directly involved those subjects. So, all my Greek and Latin and even English (that I could have cultivated anyway, because I swear I've learnt more on the net than at school) are useless now. On the blog, I recently posted about a public examination I wanted to take, but that I ultimately had to back out from (explanatory post coming) because, in short, I simply don't have the basic knowledge of law and economics it takes. So - even when you feel overwhelmed, always remember that you're doing what's in your best interest, and that you'll get your prize when the time comes. Unlike, well, me.

Of course, I will stalk you on Twitter, just in case 😉. I know you always manage to stop by, if for a little while. Soldier on, girl! We're rooting for you. (Not that you need it, I'M SURE 😉).

  3. Glad to get this update from you, Ruzi! I was actually wondering how you were doing the other day! I know all this hard work will pay off in the end, good luck with your last semester! I haven’t watched any of the shows you mentioned but I am in love with the American version of Suits. The drama is just so good, and I’m sure the Korean version is just like it!

  5. There's no shame in taking a break! We'll all be here for you when you come back, don't worry. And if you need to take a breather and blog something short (even a life update) - great, but if not that's okay too. All the best in the next months!

  6. CUTEST HIATUS GIF EVER. Also I'm both super scared and super excited for you on account of your last semester of uni coming up - that's so crazy!! And your internship sounds cool, I hope it turns out amazing.

I've been going around laughing at how sucky About Time ended up being. My mom finally admitted weeks after watching that yeah it was pretty bad so I'm basking in satisfaction that I told her so lol #petty. She's also super bored of Sec Kim now and hasn't even finished, so again, I'm satisfied for being right, but I'm super super super extremely glad you enjoyed it because you deserve some great dramas in your life rn! I'm also ridiculously excited for the TATBILB movie - did I tell you I finally read the first book? It was so cuuuute and I really hope the movie is the same but different enough that 1) it's even cuter, and 2) it's not boring bc it's exactly the same as the book which I just read ahaha.
