Ten Series We Want to Binge-Read

The original topic for this week was Series We've Given Up On/Don't Plan to Finish. This didn't work for me because I am a notorious binge-reader - so I'm dragging Vera into binge-reading with me and looking at the series we most want to marathon! Because why suffer through cliff-hangers and long waits for the next book when you could just binge the entire series at once?

(We're completing this topic for Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl)

And I Darken

And I Darken (And I Darken Series, #1) Now I Rise (And I Darken Series, #2) Bright We Burn (And I Darken Series, #3)

A Dracula retelling with a female main character and oodles of brutal, bloody drama? Is exactly the book I've always wanted to read. I've been so tempted to read these as they came out but I held on and I'll be rewarded when Bright We Burn releases next month!!

Mistborn

The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1) The Well of Ascension (Mistborn, #2) The Hero of Ages (Mistborn, #3)

Wow this series! First of all I'm pretty sure this is actually a 7 book series with numerous spin 0ffs and there's a particular reading order - I only own the first three books so it might be a while before I read these. I desperately need to figure out what order to read them in and then basically go completely away from all distractions for months in order to read these. But it'll be worth it if all I've heard about this series is true!

The Young Elites

The Young Elites (The Young Elites, #1) The Rose Society (The Young Elites, #2) The Midnight Star (The Young Elites, #3)

I actually own this series so have no excuse for not having already read them. Especially when they sound so much like they were written for me. It's basically a villain origin story and I freaking adore those!! Maybe this list will be the kick I needed to start these immediately?

Waterfire Saga

Deep Blue (Waterfire Saga, #1) Rogue Wave (Waterfire Saga, #2) Dark Tide (Waterfire Saga, #3) Sea Spell (Waterfire Saga, #4)

Having only read Donnelly's historical fiction before I'm not sure what to expect from these. But I love mermaids (the properly brutal kind) and whilst these covers scream cute and fluffy, I can't imagine they'll be 100% that when written by Donnelly. Plus I've heard the female friendships in this are incredible which I am excited about!

Given Duet

Given to the Sea (Given Duet, #1) Given to the Earth (Given Duet, #2)

I adore Mindy McGinnis - I've loved every book she has written and I am excited for these because firstly they sound interesting and secondly - major cover lust. I haven't bought Given to the Earth yet (really need to get on that) but I'm excited to read these as soon as I can!

Penryn and the End of the Days

I've heard 95% positive things about this series, and it genuinely sounds so good, so idek why I haven't read it yet!? It is at the top of my list for a reason, though - one of my top goals this summer is to binge the trilogy in one go.

The Darkest Minds

I've already read the first novel, however, it's been years, and I really, really need a reread. I remember how pleasantly surprised I was by the story, because I was so over dystopian novels by that point.

Prisoner of Night and Fog

A YA historical duology where the protagonist's uncle is Hitler? Um, that sounds fantastic, and I 1000% want it.

The Young Elites

Marie Lu is one of the biggest YA authors in the game right now, and so it's absolutely shameful, I tell you, that I've yet to read anything by her. The Young Elites trilogy sounds exactly like my kind of series, with an anti-heroine at the reins, and a dark-sounding fantasy world. CAN'T WAIT.

Asylum

Okay, I'll be the first to admit that Asylum, the first novel in the series, was far from perfect. I mean, I rated it four stars and fairly enjoyed it, but the characters were disappointing. Yet, I really-really want to continue the series, because wow, book 1 was creepy at times, and I want more of that!

Let's chat!
Do you have any books on your shelves just waiting for the next in the series to release before you read it? Do you binge read or do you read the books as they come out? And finally, are there any totally binge-able series that you'd recommend to us?

  1. I didn't enjoy The Darkest Minds, so I can see why you wouldn't want to finish that series. Fab list! My TTT

  2. Great picks guys! I'd love to binge-read Mistborn series, but it has thick books I feel like I need to space them out :D I want to binge read The Young Elites, Waterfire and Prisoner of Night and Fog too :)

    1. Thanks! I actually have binged the Mistborn series - these three books at least - and looved reading them like that, but also it wasn't how I normally binge, more like with breaks & reading other books in the meantime as well.

  3. J'adore The Young Elites trilogy! I actually have two fanfic works in progress based on this series (I've written 249 pages of one, and 38 pages of one I started a couple weeks ago). I've read all of her works and love them (except the Batman one... I don't really like superheroes but she could write a great story about the alphabet so perhaps I should give it a try).

I haven't read any of the others.

    1. We've both binged The Young Elites since posting this, and we enjoyed it a great deal, although I think we were both a bit let down by the final novel. Good luck on finishing your fanfics. :)

  4. I'm guilty of binging as well. I think I've always read my series books all together until now...(The only series I'm reading book by book is Wayward Children by S. McGuire). But sometimes it happens because I come across the books when they're all (or for the most part) out already, so I take a leap of faith and buy them all together. But I guess the authors (and especially their publishers) aren't happy when we do that, because it looks like the first book in a series drew in less people than it had the potential to (or than it was expected)...and especially for indie books, that has the potential to make or break a series...

    1. Oh yes, I definitely feel like it's not good for publishers and authors. Tbh, I usually start on-going series that I'm excited for immediately, because I have zero patience lol. And I end up binging series that are already fully published.

  6. It depends on the series as to whether I'll binge or not, if all the books are already out, then yeah I will probably binge, but if they're not then I'll get them and read them as they come out as I'm not in the habit of waiting 3 years or more for the end of the series.

    1. Oh yes, I'm the same way! I definitely love binging series, BUT I have zero patience, so with on-going series that's not going to happen lol.

  7. Great twist on this week's topic! I really want to read the Young Elites as well. I only own the first book but hopefully I'll pick it up soon - it made my list this week too!

    1. Thank you! I've just finished buddy-reading The Young Elites trilogy w. Clare, and enjoyed it, but also not as much as I expected. Hope you'll love it though! :)

  8. I tend to be a binge reader also. It is just easier to keep everything straight in a series that way. Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.

  10. I haven't read anything by Marie Lu either, and I definitely feel guilty about that because I think I'd really like her. It's funny, I have seen And I Darken around in several places, but it never really stood out to me until now. I might have to check it out from your description alone!

    1. Clare and I've just finished reading The Young Elites trilogy, and I enjoyed it, but honestly not as much as I was hoping. :( Hope you'll have better luck!

  11. I just finished Penryn and the End of Days series and liked it a lot overall, but I definitely think the first book in the series is the best. Originally I wasn't planning on reading The Darkest Minds but with the upcoming adaptation, I'll definitely have to get on that. And OMG I didn't even realize that the sequel to Given to the Sea is out already!

    1. I can't wait to read Penryn and the End of the Days, I've heard great things about it! The Darkest Minds was good, I'm excited but also worried about continuing the series, though, because what if it doesn't live up to the first??

  12. I love all that is Marie Lu, and the Young Elites was a great series. Book one blew me away, then I was a little worried after book 2, but book 3 broke me. I am crying again.

    1. We've just finished reading TYE trilogy, and I liked it, but was also a bit disappointed. *cries* But also, we are opposites - I loved book 2, but book 3 was a disappointment.

  13. And I Darken has such pretty covers! I didn't like the books though, so I never continued the series. ūüėÖ

Waterfire I kind of want to try a second time since the audiobook didn't keep my attention. I figured if I liked The Young Elites in book form rather than audio, the same might apply to Waterfire??? Who knows.

I still need to read The Darkest Minds though... ūüėÖ

    1. I'm super-excited for And I Darken! We've just finished reading The Young Elites series, and I'm DISAPPOINTED - like, it was good, but I expected better.

Hope you'll love The Darkest Minds!
