Yet Another Milestone at The Regal Critiques

It's been four years already! Four years since this little blog was born. Four years of talking about all things bookish, ranting, venting- you name it. On this occasion, we decided to have a look at how exactly we came to be The Regal Critiques, and so, let's have a look at our timeline, shall we?

15th of March, 2014

The birth of this blog, by the name of Reading is Dreaming With Open Eyes. The proud mom? Veronika.

18th of June, 2015

Addition of a co-blogger when Vera made the truly momentous decision of sharing her baby with another human. Enter Ruzaika.

19th of June, 2015

Blog revamp-  a design change, as well as name change to The Regal Critiques.

Since today is a special day and all, we'll let you have a look at the brilliant list of names we came up with first when trying to decide on a name for the blog! Excuse the typo and the general silliness, but you'll see Royal Rantings, the title we now use for our discussion posts was actually considered as a name for the blog itself!

Aaaand now we're here today  celebrating yet another milestone here on the blog and we have mighty exciting news for you! Drumroll please! *cue drumroll*  As of this day,

15th of March, 2018

As we celebrate our 4th blogoversary, we welcome a brand new member to our team here at The Regal Critiques. Put your hands together for the lovely Clare Stone, co-blogger and our latest partner-in-crime.

We can't wait to start creating the best of memories with you here, Clare!

While we're pretty sure most of you know Clare already from her own blog, Dual Reads, we nevertheless felt it would be best to get you, our beautiful readers, acquainted better with her, and therefore Vera and I came up with a set of questions- an interview, per se- for Clare, and so, without further ado, we present to you Clare Stone at her candid best!

1. Who was the first book character you truly identified with?

The first character I ever identified with was Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables. As a little kid getting bullied for being ginger I related to her so, so much! I still massively admire her but I'm a lot less like her now.

2. The zombie apocalypse has arrived! Create your ideal squad from book characters.

Ooh this is my kinda question!! I'm gonna go with Hermione - she would have those zombies researched and understood and we'd know the best way to survive so much quicker with her on hand, Percy Jackson because I feel like we'd need his sense of humour to lighten the tone plus he can handle himself in a fight. And finally Alex from The Female of the Species because she is a total badass and she would have my back.

3. What pets do you have, and what pets would you like to have in the future?

I have one dog - Taz and two fish (Lizzie and Zelda). My dog is the sweetest ball of fluff ever (and thinks he is a cat) and my fish are terrifying little monsters and I love all my pets. I definitely want cats in the future but my Dad is allergic so I'm saving that for when I live alone!

4. Do you prefer to write positive or negative reviews?

Positive definitely. I find them a lot harder to organise my thoughts but I hate writing anything negative because it just makes me feel enormously guilty!

5. If you could be a famous person, or a character for a day, who would you choose?

I would be Wonder Woman because I would love to experience that kind of self confidence and power even if only for a day!

6. What would you say is the most interesting thing about you?

I'm actually currently writing a book with my sister (and co-blogger back at Dual Reads) which we are both super proud of and are having a lot of fun with!

7. What's your best technique for persuading someone to do what you want them to?

This varies a lot depending on the person. Everyone responds differently to requests. My brother is more likely to do what I want when I just ask straight out for example - which is actually not something I'm great at. This is a surprisingly hard question to answer without sounding awful.

8. What songs best describe you?

I have a theory that everyone has a 1989 song that defines them and mine is "Wildest Dreams". But the song that I've most identified with is one I heard recently (thanks to Vera actually) and that's S.L.U.T. by Bea Miller. I absolutely love it.

9. Which authors do you think you'd be great friends with?

This is a hard one too because I have to base this entirely on their books (and/or their tweets). Louise Gornall would be great I think, I related a lot to Under Rose Tainted Skies and she responded really nicely to me when I tweeted about it! I'd also love to be friends with Rick Riordan because I also love mythology and studied it at college so we could have some fun conversations!

10. Choose 4 book covers which could be your aesthetic.

Obsidio (The Illuminae Files, #3) The Midnight Dance Maplecroft (The Borden Dispatches, #1) Gunslinger Girl

The Future?

I believe I (Vera) speak for all three of us when I say that looking into the future, I'm filled with exuberance. And, yes, I know, that sounds corny as hell, BUT we are already planning on doing so many cool things and I cannot wait to present them to y'all.

For now, our schedule will stay the same as always - you can expect new posts on Thursdays and Saturdays, as well as the weekly Top Ten Tuesday lists. BUT WAIT, there is a super-cool change there: Clare and I will be flooding you with lists together from now on. If you thought I had really great recs, (oh, come on, you all know I do!) wait until you see what the two of us have been cooking up for you.

On a final note, I believe it's going to benefit the blog a great deal to add a third person to the mix. Yes, partly it is the fact that we'll all have more time to work on posts, which (hopefully) equals more thoughtful, better quality posts. NOT THAT THEY WEREN'T AMAZING UP UNTIL NOW.

Khm, where was I? Oh yeah, practical benefits aside, I couldn't name anyone I'd like to join us more than Clare. She is a fantastic blogger, who manages to convey her feelings and her passion for books eloquently in her reviews, and she is a lovely as heck friend, SO LIKE, THIS IS GOING TO BE AMAZING, I CAN FEEL IT.

  1. Oh wow, I AM surprised. Welcome Clare! You must be Wonder Woman already, if you plan on keeping your feet in two blogs! (though "only" as a coblogger). We all know how hard it is to manage one...Good luck and have fun!

So, Vera and Ruzi, I've known you for 3 of these blogging years...and despite the age difference (ahem) and rarely reading the same books, we've been very good friends ever since. It was fun to read the names you cooked up prior to choosing The Regal Critiques. "Grandiloquence" LOL. It was a really catchy and different name, but I'm afraid it would have scared a few readers away 😉. I can see it was in the same vein of all the other royal stuff now...but it wouldn't have been so easy to get per se. "Royal Rantings" works so well for discussions, but if you had chosen it as your blog name, people would probably have expected you to rant all the time LOL.

I can't wait for the dynamic trio to start working their magic on the blog! Best of luck!

    1. Clare sure has some super powers up her sleeve! xD THANK YOU, Roby! You've never failed to feel us appreciated around here and you're one of the blogs Vera and I both religiously follow despite, as you mentioned, our tendencies to have very different reading tastes. Thank you for sticking around here!
And yes, I thought Grandiloquence would be a, well, GRAND blog name but I'm glad Vera managed to talk me out of it! xD

  11. Congratulations on four years and I'm so excited to read some of your recommendations, Clare! I also feel SO guilty when I'm writing negative reviews (but, strangely, I love reading negative reviews...). I'm just an eternal optimist :)
