When the year started I had this huge aspiration - to read at least one classic after every 5th non-classic novel. Based on how many novels I usually read/year, I expected to read around 30 classics in 2017, but oh WELL, THAT'S NOT REALLY WORKING OUT. There are just so many exciting new releases and the blogs I follow mostly post about modern titles, which results in me being pumped for those.
BUT this fall, to catch up a tad bit, I want to read at least 10 classic novels, and, as today's Top Ten Tuesday (weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish) post is dedicated to our fall TBRs, I figured, this is the perfect time to share these ten books with you.
What books are on your fall TBR? Leave a link to your TTTs in the comments!
A Wrinkle in Time is sooo good! I'm so looking forward to the film adaptation as well, I'm pretty sure Oprah is in it so it must be good! I haven't read Lolita but my cousin has and she did say that it can be pretty disturbing and uncomfortable. I know it's a really controversial book, but I would like to give it a shot.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read A Wrinkle in Time, and part of the reason for that is that I'm REALLY-REALLY excited for the movie! It looks so good. Same about Lolita - I'm a bit scared I won't be able to handle it, but I want to give it a shot.
DeleteI love 1984 and Lolita, so I really hope you`ll get to them and like them as much as I do.

Eep, can't wait to read them! Both are such big classics that I can't believe I haven't yet read them.
DeleteI think I've read axactly 2 of these. Well, two and a half. I read Diary of a Young Girl many years ago and I read A Wrinkle in Time when I was a kid. I was assigned to read 1984 in high school and got maybe halfway through it before quitting. I was bored out of my mind. I compared notes with friends and I guess I somehow made it through the test or paper or whatever the assignment was. I tried Rebecca because my mother read it many years ago and recommended it but got bored with that as well. It's rare I pick up a classic these days. *sigh* Good luck in getting to some of these!
ReplyDeleteAhaha, that was some great encouragement you gave there, Tanya! I'm kidding! I love your comment! In any case, I'm sad these didn't work out for you. I actually picked up 1984 but didn't get really far, because it was just really depressing to read in many ways.
DeleteYou have to read Frankenstein and Phantom! They are amazing! I'm saving Jane Eyre for this halloween :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, Jane Eyre will be great for a dark-ish, but not really creepy Halloween read. Hope you'll love it!
DeleteI really want to read Phantom of the Opera as well! I absolutely adore the play and the movies so feel like it should be one of those no-brainer books that I need to read. 1984 and Frankenstein I actually, liked, surprisingly, so I hope you will as well! Best of luck, Vera :)

Would you believe that I haven't watched the movies OR the play, yet!? NEED TO GET ON WITH THAT ASAP. Thank you. :D
DeleteI read 1984 like 30 years ago (I remember it favorably) and A Wrinkle in Time was about 35 years ago (loved it!) Good luck with this list!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm glad you liked them :D
DeleteI'm terrible with classics, and should read more too. Maybe 1984...
ReplyDeleteIf I were you I'd give a try to Animal Farm first, REALLY great and a lot shorter. :)
DeleteRebecca is one of my favorites! Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for that!! *-* Thank you!
DeleteGood luck! I'm absolutely awful with classics. I've tried them on numerous occasions but I just can't get into them. I did really enjoy the diary of Anne Frank, though, very powerful and memorable. And I'm very interested in The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThank you! There are many classics I loved, but it can be so hard to pick one up when I usually have a lot of new books waiting to be read as well. :|
