Abigail Haas - Dangerous Girls

"Any one of us could be made to look a monster, with selective readings of our history"

It's Spring Break of senior year. Anna, her boyfriend Tate, her best friend Elise, and a few other close friends are off to a debaucherous trip to Aruba that promises to be the time of their lives. But when Elise is found brutally murdered, Anna finds herself trapped in a country not her own, fighting against vile and contemptuous accusations.

As Anna sets out to find her friend's killer; she discovers hard truths about her friendships, the slippery nature of truth, and the ache of young love.

As she awaits the judge's decree, it becomes clear that everyone around her thinks she is not just guilty, but dangerous. When the truth comes out, it is more shocking than one could ever imagine...

Oh my God, this story was something different, it was full of angst, suffering and so many lies that I couldn't even count them... I've just reached the end of the book, but I need to get it all out of myself because it was just so freaking amazing.

I love these kinds of books because you'll just keep guessing til the end and then, just in the last few pages, you'll learn if you got it right or not. I'd like to say that there were lots and lots of theories in my head, I accused nearly everyone of killing Elise, but I couldn't get it right. The end was such a surprise to me (even if a little bit twisted) that I just sat at my laptop read the last few sentences and I was like "What the hell is happening? Am I reading this right?". So yeah, it was a pretty exciting read for me.
The Storyline

It's spring break, so Anna and her friends decide to go on a vacation and relax. They want to let go of the stress and just enjoy themselves at an island, Aruba. They are partying hard but everything comes crashing down when one day they can't reach Elise, Anna's best friend. They eventually manage to get into her bedroom, which was locked since morning, and here they find her body stabbed to death. The police start to ask questions and soon it's just Anna and her boyfriend Tate accused of murdering the girl. Anna is furious inside because see, she was Elise's best friend, so she can't get how can they accuse her of the murder.

Everyone is trying to tell her that this is just a big mistake and soon they will be cleared of off all charges, yeah you probably guessed it by now that this isn't what happens. Anna is torn apart: all her friends left her, and there are interesting facts revealing about her boyfriend, Tate (which weren't really surprising).

Soon she has to discover that this is a cruel world controlled by money and influence... it's all about the big people getting what they want, without even caring who they ruin.

And in the end the bad ones didn't always get what they deserve, mostly they don't... if they can put up with their guilt they can live a happy, careless life, even if they did something horrible.

“Niklas, and Tate, they've got money, they can buy their way out of anything. Say what they like, just to protect themselves. And here I am... It’s no contest, is it?”
It was another disgusting thing how the policeman didn't even tried to reveal the truth he just put the blame on someone, because he wanted to prove what a good detective he is. And the press... it was just simply bad how they made everything look even more dramatic than in real life, considering that the whole incident was pretty bad in reality, you can have the idea how f*cked up they made everything seem like.

Back to her friends, how they left her was bad enough but the interview with AK... what kind of people is capable of something like that?

"You see? How simple it is, how one little piece of information changes everything. How it all just falls into place.Betrayal."
The Characters

Just a few sentences about them, I don't think it would be good to disassemble these characters into little pieces. Together they made the story believable and true in a dark way. They showed that you can get stabbed in the back, even when you the least expect it by the people who are the most precious to you. I liked that they weren't all cheesy and happy people without flaws. BUT there were a really few actually good people in this story... the others weren't evil either (well, not all of them), but they were mean and they stepped over each other and by any meaning I would never call most of them real friends. I would rather have the story adding a few kind and caring people, because yeah sometimes there are more wrong around you but there must be a few who are actually normal.

The story idea: 5/5
The realization of the story: 5/5
The characters: 5/5
The cover: 4/5
All in all: 5/5

Recommend it to people who'd like a story in which you will totally freak out at the end. :)
