Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke
Every story needs a hero.
Every story needs a villain.
Every story needs a secret.
Wink is the odd, mysterious neighbor girl, wild red hair and freckles. Poppy is the blond bully and the beautiful, manipulative high school queen bee. Midnight is the sweet, uncertain boy caught between them. Wink. Poppy. Midnight. Two girls. One boy. Three voices that burst onto the page in short, sharp, bewitching chapters, and spiral swiftly and inexorably toward something terrible or tricky or tremendous.
What really happened?
Someone is lying.
The first thing that caught my attention about this book was the author. I've read another book- Slasher Girls and Monster Boys, a collection of short stories by various authors, to which April Genevieve Tucholke contributed too, and I simply loved her writing in the story The Flicker, The Fingers, The Beat, The Sigh. Below is my review of that particular story, you can find Veronika's and my discussion review of the whole anthology here.
The Flicker, The Fingers, The Beat, The Sigh by April Genevieve Tucholke
"She was looking at me when the car hit her.."
Theo, his girlfriend, his sister and her boyfriend are on the way home after a celebratory night of the optimistic start of the rest of their lives post graduation when a girl steps in front of the car's path.. A classic cliché, with a group of characters doing something really terrible and ending up getting what they deserve. But this was still a cliché well done. I loved the ending- knowing that they ultimately paid for what they did was very satisfying. My rating- 4/5
Well, so that was my review of that story. Coming back to the book I'm waiting on today, it's not only the author, but the title, cover and blurb that intrigued me too. Wink, Poppy and Midnight- a hero, a villain and a liar- but who is who? That could be so much fun to figure out! So yeah, this book definitely makes me wait for it, and I can't wait to take a plunge into this promising fantasy as soon as possible!
